THE two remaining fugitives who were wanted by the Ministry of Public Security over the man-made Shenzhen landslide in December have been taken into custody by Shenzhen police, the local authorities said yesterday.
Long Renfu, chairman of Yixianglong Investment and Development Co., was caught by Shenzhen police in Anren County, Chenzhou City in Hunan Province, on Sunday.
Police also arrested two suspects, Cai Wei and Bian Dongfeng, who allegedly harbored Long, the Shenzhen police crime investigation department said on its official microblog yesterday.
The other fugitive, Wang Minghui, surrendered to police at the Huanggang Checkpoint in Futian District, when returning from Indonesia at 2 p.m. yesterday.
The Ministry of Public Security issued a wanted notice Friday for three suspects who were on the run after the landslide that buried 77 people in Guangming New Area on Dec. 20.
Lin Xixiao, one of the suspects, surrendered to police in Fuqing City, Fujian Province, on Saturday, one day after the wanted list was released.
Long was also chairman of the Chenzhou Chamber of Commerce in Shenzhen.
Twelve suspects are being investigated for abuse of power and dereliction of duty in the Guangming landslide, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said Monday. The suspects have been detained under “coercive measures.”
The suspects include Deng Zhixiong, deputy chief of Guangming New Area Urban Management Bureau, Zeng Keting, deputy chief of the area’s administrative service center, Zhu Wuyue, former director of the illegal structure management office in Guangming Subdistrict, and Zheng Cunhui, an engineer with the General Station of Shenzhen Soil and Water Conservation.
The Yixianglong company operated the dumpsite within the Hengtaiyu Industrial Park in Guangming New Area.
A giant deluge of mud and construction waste from the overfilled dumpsite buried 33 buildings. Rescuers have recovered 69 bodies and eight people are still missing, according to the latest statistics released by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Information Office last week.
