    One with a heart

    JENNIFER LAWRENCE is making a big-time donation to her hometown children’s hospital.

    The Oscar-winning actress is donating US$2 million to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. In a YouTube video posted Friday, Lawrence announced the establishment of the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, adding, “I challenge everyone to give whatever they can to raise an additional US$2 million to help.” The unit aims to expand access to children in need of specialized heart care.

    Chinese box office

    AFTER nabbing the crown for biggest single-day gross on its opening day, “The Mermaid” has grossed a huge US$187.3 million take in just five days after its release Monday, the largest ever in China.

    Directed by Stephen Chow, the latest hit comedy, soaked with Fusing Chow’s typical brand of humor, tells a love story and sends an environmentalist message. Starring actor Deng Chao and actresses Lin Yun and Zhang Yuqi, “The Mermaid” has benefited huge from the Chinese New Year holiday. Chow Yun-fat’s comedy caper “The Man From Macau 3” grossed US$91.9 million, and “The Monkey King 2” starring Aaron Kwok pulled in US$87 million during the same period.

    Singer the new designer

    RIHANNA presented her Fenty Puma by Rihanna collection at New York Fashion Week on Friday. The collection is heavy on Japanese-inspired streetwear in almost exclusively black and white, with, she said, “a Gothic undertone.” As befitting a collection for Puma, it of course featured sneakers, many with high stacked platforms.(SD-Agencies)
