Protesters rally in support of former NYPD officer Peter Liang in the Brooklyn borough of New York on Saturday. Liang was convicted of manslaughter and official misconduct Thursday for fatally shooting an unarmed black man, Akai Gurley, in 2014. Tens of thousands of people, mostly Chinese-Americans, rallied in more than 30 U.S. cities to protest the conviction. Protesters said Liang was unfairly treated to ease friction between the police force and black communities in the U.S. A ricocheted bullet from Liang’s weapon killed Gurley when Liang was patrolling in a housing project in Brooklyn in November 2014.
