Cahill signs with China’s Greentown
     2016-February-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AUSTRALIAN soccer star Tim Cahill has extended his stay in China, with Hangzhou Greentown yesterday announcing that he had signed for the club, a week after Shanghai Greenland Shenhua terminated his contract.

The 36-year-old veteran and former Everton midfielder signed a short-term deal with Greentown, the club said. Last week Cahill said Shenhua had terminated his contract as he was not part of the new coach’s plans.

Cahill, Australia’s top goalscorer, is one of the biggest foreign names in the cash-rich Chinese Super League, whose clubs have lured talent with multi-million-dollar salaries and hefty transfer fees.

The Chinese record transfer fee has been smashed four times in the current transfer window, culminating in Jiangsu Suning paying Shakhtar Donetsk 50 million euros (US$56 million) for Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira. (SD-Agencies)
