Didi Kuaidi monthly GMV hits $800m

DIDI Kuaidi (Didi Chuxing), the nation’s fastest growing O2O app, had 10 million new active users this January alone, bringing the platform’s monthly GMV (Gross Merchandise Volume) to US$800 million, more than the aggregate rideshare GMV for the North America market, according to James Li, chief development officer of Didi Chuxing.

The remarks were made after the announcement of a report by the Commission on Sharing Economy under China Internet Society and the IT Research Department of the State Information Center on Sharing Economy, which estimates the market size had reached US$1.95 trillion in 2015 with participation by over 500 million people worldwide.

The sharing economy refers to the integrating, sharing and dispersing of underutilized resources with Internet technology to maximize social and economic utility.

According to Li, Didi Kuaidi has built out a diverse platform that mobilizes consumer transportation resources across private car hailing, taxis, ride hitching, test drives, designated driving, enterprise solutions and bus services. At the end of January, Didi was operating in over 400 Chinese cities, over 200 of which were operating above the break-even point. At the current growth speed of China’s mobile transportation market and Didi’s own platform, Didi’s monthly GMV in China is expected to overtake the global monthly GMV of its main peers before quarter 3 of 2016.
