空窗期

    kōngchuāngqī

    Meaning: Literally translated as "open-window period," this term, first heard on Taiwan TV shows, refers to a respite when a person is dating anyone after a breakup. It is also used to refer to transitional periods in people's lives, when they are jobless or caught in some bottleneck.

    Example:

    A: 小丽怎么这段时间不爱说笑也不好好打扮，跟换了个人一样。

    Xiǎolì zǔnme zhèduàn shíjiān bù ài shuōxiào yě bù hǎohǎo dǎbàn, gēn huàn le gè rén yīyàng。

    Xiaoli has been quite silent lately and not dressing up like she used to. What's up?

    B: 她现在是空窗期，跟男朋友分手一个月了。

    Tā xiànzài shì kōngchuāngqī, gēn nánpéngyǒu fēnshǒu yīgèyuè le。

    She is in a respite period. It's been a month since she broke up with her boyfriend.
