CITIES around China have been releasing their gross domestic product (GDP) numbers for 2015 recently. Nanshan District of Shenzhen ranked number one in Guangdong Province again.
Five of the top 10 cities and districts with the highest GDP in Guangdong Province are in Shenzhen, according to the Shenzhen Municipal Statistics Bureau.
Nanshan District achieved a GDP of around 371.46 billion yuan (US$57.2 billion) last year, with a growth rate of 9.3 percent. Thanks to a good number of companies headquartered in Nanshan, the district has had the highest GDP in Guangdong Province for years.
Companies in Nanshan include tech giants like Tencent and ZTE. With China’s greater investment in innovative sectors, the district saw its highest GDP in 13 years.
The area covers around 185.11 square kilometers and is home to about 1.12 million people.
Futian District had the second highest growth in Shenzhen and was ranked third in Guangdong Province.
The other three administrative districts in Shenzhen that are in the top 10 in the province are Bao’an District, which is in sixth place, Longgang District, in seventh, and Luohu District, in 10th place. Tianhe District in Guangzhou came in second place, followed by the city’s Huangpu and Yuexiu districts, ranked fourth and fifth.
Two districts in Foshan, a city next to Guangzhou, Shunde and Nanhai ranked 8th and 9th for GDP in 2015 in Guangdong Province.
