HK awards
CRIME thriller “Port of Call” was the big winner of this year’s Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Awards. Its lead actors Aaron Kwok and Jessie Li were named best actor and best actress, and co-star Michael Ning took home the best newcomer award.
Tsui Hark collected the best director award for his work on “The Taking of Tiger Mountain,” which also won best film. The awards given out Wednesday night have been strong indicators of the winners of the Hong Kong Film Awards in recent years.
‘Europe Raiders’
ACTORS Tony Leung and Kris Wu will join the cast of “Europe Raiders,” sequel to the 2000 film “Tokyo Raiders” and 2006 film “Seoul Raiders” directed by Jingle Ma. The producer of the film says the movie will start shooting by the end of March.
Box office hit
DISNEY charmer “Zootopia” has drawn the highest single-day gross ever for an animated film in China on Saturday. It sat at about US$26 million on the day, beating the previous record by “Kung Fu Panda 3.”
The animation has crossed nearly US$90 million on the 9th day of its release in China. The next Hollywood blockbuster coming to China is “The Revenant” on Friday, followed by “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” on March 25.
‘Prison Break’
SARAH WAYNE CALLIES is returning to Fox’s “Prison Break” revival. She will join returning stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, who will reprise their roles as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, respectively.
In the new series, which picks up after Michael’s apparent death, Sara is raising her and Michael’s child with her new husband. When clues surface suggesting that Michael may be alive, Sara teams with Lincoln to engineer the series’ biggest escape. (SD-Agencies)
