    Chinese medicine advertised as donkey-hide gelatin, or ejiao, tested as containing cow and pig DNA and no donkey DNA, the Daily Sunshine reported Tuesday. The ejiao is being sold by Beijing Tongrentang, a well-known traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) brand.

    According to Xinhua News Agency’s reports, an industry insider said the annual supply of donkey hides in China — the key material of the gelatin — is only enough to produce 60 percent of the annual output of the gelatin in China, meaning that about 40 percent of the gelatin sold on the market is fake.
