    THE Baoneng Group donated 100 million yuan (US$15.47 million) to the South University of Science and Technology of China (SUSTC) for education and scientific research at a ceremony Friday.

    The money will be given out over 10 years starting this year. The first 10 million yuan was transferred to the university after a strategic cooperation agreement was signed Friday.

    The amount is the largest donation that the university has received since it was established in 2010.

    “Both Baoneng and the SUSTC hope that Shenzhen will have stronger and more sustainable creativity in science and industry,” Yao Zhenhua, chairman of Baoneng Group, said Friday. Li Ming, head of the SUSTC’s Party committee, said the cooperation between the two sides will push forward the development of the SUSTC and enhance the influence of Baoneng as well.
