A4腰
     2016-March-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Meaning:

The size of a piece of A4 paper is 21*29.7 cm. Literally translated as “A4 waist,” this term became a buzzword lately as young girls posted online photos of themselves covering their waist with a piece of A4 paper to prove how slim they were. Many celebrities joined in the trend. According to estimates, those who can hide their waist behind a piece of A4 paper have a waistline less than 66 cm. But doctors have warned against the trend, saying beauty and health requires a person’s figure to be well-proportioned and BMI between 18.5 and 23.9.

    Example:

    A: 小丽的相片你看见了吗?

Xiǎolì de xiàngpiān nǐ kànjiàn le ma?

    Did you see Xiaoli’s photo?

    B: 看见了,是秀A4腰的那张吧。

Kànjiàn le, shì xìu ēisìyāo de nàzhāng ba。

Yeah. You mean the one where she showed off her “A4 waist.”

    A: 真没想到她一个冬天苗条了那么多。

Zhēn méi xiǎngdào tā yīgè dōngtiān miáotiáo le nàme duō。

It surprised me how many pounds she shed off over the winter.
