Kamworor wins half marathon despite fall
     2016-March-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

GEOFFREY KAMWOROR fell on the starting line of the world half marathon championships but got back up to successfully defend his title in record time Saturday, with Mo Farah coming third.

Kamworor, beaten by Farah in the 10,000 meters at the worlds in Beijing last year, set a championship record of 59 minutes, 10 seconds, despite bruised and bloodied knees from his fall.

Double Olympic champion Farah called the race “part of my journey to Rio,” where the Briton will defend his 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter titles.

The Kenyan duo of Kamworor and Bedan Karoki set a very quick pace, which saw them pull clear of Farah, whose trademark sprint finish in torrential rain earned him bronze in 59:59, the fastest by a European this year.

Karoki clocked 59:36 in second. (SD-Agencies)
