THE Shenzhen Municipal Transport Commission seized 10 drivers of non-Shenzhen-registered vehicles that were offering illegal app-based cab services in Shenzhen on Saturday, the first day of the Qingming Festival holiday.
As of Tuesday, Shenzhen police, the transport commission and market supervision required app-based cab operators to disqualify drivers of nonlocal vehicles from offering cab services in the city.
Among the 10 drivers, nine offered services through Didi apps and one used Uber. Five of the seized vehicles are registered in Dongguan, three in Huizhou, one in Meizhou, and one in Ningbo in East China’s Zhejiang Province.
During an inspection at Fenghuangshan Boulevard in Fuyong, Bao’an District, road officers intercepted a vehicle with a plate registered in Huizhou. Yet the passengers and driver refused to cooperate. Eventually, the passengers told officers that the driver picked them up at Shajing, Bao’an District, at 9:40 a.m. through the Didi app.
Statistics show that around 300,000 non-local-registered vehicles were offering app-based cab services in Shenzhen, worsening the city’s traffic congestion. Shenzhen is planning on cleaning illegal services by nonlocal app-based cabs by Sunday. App operators that fail to cooperate will be listed as untrustworthy.
