THREE-TIME World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a rallying call to Real Madrid’s fans as they aim to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit against Wolfsburg in their Champions League quarterfinal today.
Goals from Ricardo Rodriguez and Maximilian Arnold have left Madrid with a mountain to climb to reach the semifinals for a fifth consecutive season.
However, Ronaldo remains confident Real’s free-scoring home form this season will ensure they overturn a first-leg defeat in the Champions League for the first time since 2002.
“The team are confident, the coach has faith and the fans must also have faith. Tuesday has to be a magical night,” he told the club’s website.
Ronaldo was on target in a 4-0 rout of Eibar on Saturday as Real scored at least four goals for the seventh time in nine home games since coach Zinedine Zidane took charge in January.
All four goals arrived before half-time against the Basque minnows.
