    BMW car recall

BMW China Automotive Trading Ltd. is to recall some imported BMW 7 series models over flawed air bags from May 25.

The recall will involve 3,115 vehicles sold on the Chinese mainland that were produced between June 24, 2015, and Dec. 11, 2015, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in a statement. A sheet metal in the air bag control unit may cause a restart of the unit and thus air bags may fail to function in collisions, said the statement.

    March vehicle sales

CHINA’S vehicle sales in March rose 7.8 percent from a year earlier, data from China Passenger Car Association showed yesterday.

Auto sales totaled 1.92 million, the association said in a statement on its website. For the January-March period, vehicle sales rose 6.8 percent from the same period in 2015, it said.

    Tianjin throughput

CHINA’S Tianjin port is expected to see a marked increase in throughput by 2020 thanks to rising cargo volume after the north China city was allowed to pilot free trade zone.

“We will strive to improve the throughput to 650 million tons by 2020...to support the Tianjin city to develop into a key international shipping center in China’s northern area,” Zhang Liyi, spokesperson of Tianjin Port Co., said Sunday.

As the world’s fourth largest port, Tianjin handled 540 million tons of cargo last year, almost flat with the volume seen in 2014. The Tianjin Free Trade Experimental Zone was inaugurated in April last year to further opening up and stimulate trade amid a sluggish global economic recovery.
