Meaning:
“贴” means to “stick ... onto,” and “牌” is short for “品牌,” which means “brand.” Translated as “original equipment manufacturer” (OEM), this term refers to a manufacturer that makes products for its clients using the clients’ brands. Many Chinese companies grow by working as OEMs for overseas companies.
Example:
A: 我的电饭煲坏了,准备买个新的。你有什么好推荐?
Wǒ de diànfànbāo huài le, zhǔnbèi mǎi gè xīn de。Nǐ yǒu shénme hǎo tuījiàn?
My electric rice cooker is broken and I’d like to buy a new one. What do you recommend?
B: 市场上的大品牌应该都可以。
Shìchǎng shàng de dà pǐnpái yīnggāi dōu kěyǐ。
Any established brand in the market will be fine.
A: 国产品牌好还是进口品牌好?
Guóchǎn pǐnpái hǎo háishì jìnkǒu pǐnpái hǎo?
Which is better, a homemade brand or an imported brand?
B: 差不多吧,很多洋品牌也是国内厂家贴牌的产品。
Chàbùduō ba, hěnduō yáng pǐnpái yěshì guónèi chǎngjiā tiēpái de chǎnpǐn。
Not much difference. Many foreign brands are manufactured by Chinese OEMs.
