Police aid celebrated for saving colleague
     2016-April-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HU RUIRONG, a 38-year-old police aid working on the Futian police force, saved a police officer’s life last year when facing a man with a knife. Hu’s story has gotten publicity recently, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

Hu has been working as a police aid for seven years. His job is to assist police officers in daily operations. The police aids, also known as auxiliary police, work under the lead of police officers.

Hu was injured during an operation when assisting an officer, identified as Zhuang Zewei, in capturing a suspect running from police in Luohu District last year.

The suspect used a knife to attack Zhuang while Zhuang was riding a motorcycle in pursuit. Zhuang dodged the knife.

Hu joined the fight and was cut on the neck and on the fingers while fighting the suspect. Hu kept fighting the suspect despite his injuries. The suspect was eventually held down by Hu, Zhuang and other police officers.

Hu had a nine-centimeter cut across his neck, ending only one centimeter away from his left artery. His left middle finger was broken also.

Hu was badly hurt according to his diagnosis, but he did not regret his behavior.

“If I could do it again, I would still help Zhuang,” said Hu.

Before serving as a police aid, Hu worked at a produce wholesale market at Buji in Longgang District. He was delivering products for a company there.

Hu soon became bored with his last job and decided to become a patrol guard at the police station.

“I was a little bit disappointed at the beginning because I need to stay outdoors for eight hours a day even under extreme weather,” said Hu.

Hu helped resolve many cases over the years. He has stopped thieves, detained suspects and reported fires.

“I will still protect my brothers during operations,” said Hu. Hu said that he felt a little bit guilty endangering himself because of what might happen to his family if he were injured.

Also reported by the Daily, a police aid was stabbed by a suspected drug dealer during a raid Sunday.

Pan Shuaibing, 23, a police aid at the Shuijing Police Station in Buji, Longgang District, was attacked by the knife-wielding suspect while the two scuffled. Pan held the suspect despite having an artery and tendon cut.

Police seized 50 grams of crystal meth and 8,000 yuan (US$1,236). The attacker is in criminal detention.
