World troupes bringing children’s plays

    Nine children’s plays from around the world will be staged at Nanshan Cultural and Sports Center from next week through the end of the year.

    ‘A World of Living Clothes’ by Fantasy Theater (Taiwan)

    Imagine if handkerchiefs, gloves, clothes or hats could have their own life and characteristics. Would their world be the same as ours? During a quiet afternoon in a business store, a longhaired man decides to hold a special party for his clothes. A handkerchief wakes up, loves become a greedy ancient monster, a lonely shirt gets a warm kiss. In the clothing world, a beautiful fairy-tale story emerges.

    Dates: April 29-May 1

    ‘Folklore Fantasies’ by Varna State Puppet

    Theater (Bulgaria)

    “Folklore Fantasies” is a non-verbal puppet show. It uses daily practical items, clothes and fantasy farm music to display a spectacular farm show. In the 50-minute show, the artists smartly transform the daily common objects into some well-known people and animals. The audience will love this humorous world. This puppet show is suitable for all ages.

    ‘The Overcoat’ by Brush Theater (South Korea)

    Longing for her dad’s care, Jenny takes comfort from a strand of wool from her father’s coat. One day, the wool suddenly becomes an elephant. Jenny and her elephant friend start to explore the innocent world together.

    ‘Wasted Time’ by Teatro

    Plus (Spain)

    Daddy is a normal person with a regular schedule. However, his strict schedule changes completely along with his daughter Beibei’s appearance! She needs to be fed, to be played with, and be taken care of. She needs lots of time. Therefore, Daddy gets annoyed and always asks Beibei not to bother him.

    ‘Like Playing’ by MTM Puppet Theater (Costa Rica)

    With diversified color and music, life fable elaborates a poetic fantasy story. When the puppet is performing the beautiful story on stage, viewers feel like they are part of the show, their hands dancing with the music and talking together in a whisper. We hope to bring the audience not only a fabulous stage performance, but also a philosophy for living.

    ‘Y’a Comme un Pepin’ by Compagnie Romane Oh (Belgium)

    From stones a small bud becomes a tree, the tree becomes paper and paper creates a wonderful world. Imagination and creativity come to life in this wonderful world!

    ‘Menut Cabaret’ by Sola & Tully (Ireland)

    “Menut Cabaret” demonstrates an interesting and poetic story. Although Mina has only one hand, she learns to survive in this little world. And a wonderful story has begun.

    Dates: Oct. 1-30 (Fri./Sat./Sun.)

    ‘Room 801’ by Cia Lucas Locus (Spain)

    Here you can see a circus carnival and feel the loneliness of the artist behind the scenes. “Room 801” brings a circus visual feast and the beauty of art in tears and joy.

    Dates: Nov. 4-27 (Fri./Sat./Sun.)

    ‘Garbez’ by Gabez Theater (Japan)

    Japanese group Gabez will bring a pantomime show combined with acrobatics and dancing.
