ONE was killed and nine other were injured in a metal factory explosion in Tianliao Community, Gongming Subdistrict, Guangming New Area, on Friday.

    A preliminary investigation showed that the fire at the factory, an iron-sheet shed that covers about 200 square meters, was caused by operation irregularities.

    The explosion started at around 4:08 p.m. and the fire was put out 30 minutes later.

    The factory, which was used to polish parts, was ordered to halt production April 13, when work safety authorities found safety hazards.

    The work safety administration stopped electricity to the factory, but the owner of the factory continued running the factory.

    According to the Shenzhen government’s information office, the owner had been held for investigation.
