A Heart for China

    A Shenzhen charity group, A Heart for China, which has over 1,100 members and was founded last year, will celebrate its first anniversary May 5. The evening programs include a buffet, drinks, wine, a lucky draw, an award ceremony and magicians.

    Hou Dengke’s photos

    Exhibitions featuring photographs by late Chinese photographer Hou Dengke (1950-2003) are being held at two museums in town. Born in a village in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, Hou was a worker and later an official for a railway company. He held his first photo exhibition in 1982. Villages and migrant workers are the themes of his black-and-white photography, recording social changes in modern China. The 300 exhibited photos in Shenzhen were selected from his works between 1978 and 2002.

    Cinco de Mayo parties

    Cinco de Mayo is a celebration held every May 5 to commemorate the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Now, events tied to Cinco de Mayo occur not only in Mexico, but around the world and focus on Mexican cuisine! This Thursday, drink specials, Mexican food and live music will be available at Cinco de Mayo parties at some Shenzhen bars and restaurants.

    Pancho’s will hold a three-day celebration from May 5 to 7 with one free tequila shot per person, a Mexican buffet and live music. Thursday’s theme is Acapulco Night while on Friday and Saturday you can enjoy Cancun Spring Break nights.
