    Film fest

THE 25th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, featuring China’s top film-industry awards, is teaming up with the country’s key micro-film project for youth. The festival is scheduled to open Sept. 21 in Tangshan, Hebei Province.

It will include the 5th International Micro-Film Festival for University Students. The past four micro-film festivals have attracted 5,000 productions.

    Remake

ALIBABA Pictures, the Chinese film studio established by Jack Ma’s e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, has reportedly acquired the rights to remake 20th Century Fox’s “Night at the Museum” franchise. Sources say the project is still in the early stages, with casting and a director yet to be secured.

The original “Night at the Museum” films directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ben Stiller and the late Robin Williams were popular with Chinese audience. Later this year, Alibaba will release its Chinese-language feature debut, “The Ferryman,” directed by Zhang Jiajia and produced by Wong Kar-wai.
