踏青
     2016-May-3  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Meaning:

“踏” means to “step on,” and “青” means “green.” The Chinese term vividly depicts the scenes of people going merrily on a trip in spring. For hundreds of years, spring outings have been associated with the tomb sweeping activities around the Qingming Festival, which often falls on April 5.

    Example:

    A: 今年总是下雨,我想出门踏青都一直没去成。

Jīnnián zǒngshì xiàyǔ, wǒ xiǎng chūmén tàqīng dōu yīzhí méi qù chéng。

It’s always raining this year. I haven’t got a chance to go on a spring outing.

    B: 是啊,我也想出去春游呢。要不我们下周末一起去旅游吧。

Shì a, wǒ yě xiǎng chūqù chūnyóu ne。Yàobù wǒmen xià zhōumò yīqǐ qù lǚyóu ba。

I’ve been wanting to go on a spring outing too. Let’s plan a tour together next weekend.

    A: 好啊,你想去哪里?

Hǎo a, nǐ xiǎng qù nǎlǐ?

Cool. Where do you want to go?

    B: 高铁几小时可以到的地方最合适。

Gāotiě jǐ xiǎoshí kěyǐ dào de dìfāng zuì héshì。

It’s best to find a place a few hours away by the high-speed train.
