A WOMAN was robbed and killed after hailing an app-based taxi from Nanshan to Shajing, Bao’an District, on Monday, the last day of the May Day holiday.
The woman, surnamed Zhong, took the Didi taxi from the Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Park in Nanshan District on Monday evening, but when her husband called at 10:15 p.m., her phone had been switched off. Zhong’s husband called police.
Gaoxin Police Station officers later found the car, which proved to be a car with duplicated plates, in Bao’an District, and detained the driver in an apartment in Bao’an.
The driver, surnamed Pan, admitted he drove Zhong to a remote place and robbed her before killing her. Zhong’s body has been found, Nanshan police said on their official microblog yesterday.
Zhong was a teacher at a primary school in Shajing. She was on her way back to the school when she was killed.
The incident raises public concern over the safety of app-based taxi services.
