Bulgarian non-verbal play “Folklore Fantasies,” presented by the State Puppet Theater Varna, will be staged this weekend.
It is an amusing play of imagination and fantasy, which is woven upon some motifs taken from the treasury of authentic Bulgarian folklore. It is a real story narrated with the help of everyday objects from the nearest past and with many bright hues of various forms and sounds woven through it.
The State Puppet Theater Varna was founded in 1952 in the resort of Varna, Bulgaria. More than 250 productions have been on its stage and more than 200,000 performances have been seen by more than 8 million spectators. The theater has its own building in the center of the town, containing an auditorium with 200 seats, a rehearsal stage, dressing rooms, administration rooms, studios and a Museum of Puppets — the only one of its kind in the Balkans.
The theater’s repertoire offers performances for spectators of all ages, starting from classical and modern plays for children, entertaining and vanguard performances for adults to educational productions for students.
The theater has been the host of the prestigious international puppet festival “The Golden Dolphin.” It is held every three years at the beginning of October in the town of Varna and it has turned into a center of the best achievements of puppet theaters in the world.
