Dutch jazz singer Susanne Abbuehl will perform at B10 Live on Friday.
Abbuehl is a Swiss and Dutch jazz singer and composer. At the age of 17 she went to Los Angeles where she went to a high school and attended music lessons daily. She toured the United States and Canada in an ensemble. She then studied at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, the Netherlands, obtaining a master’s degree in performance and pedagogy. She also became a student of famed Indian classical singer and composer Prabha Atre in Mumbai. Abbuehl studied composition with Dutch composer Diderik Wagenaar.
In 2001, her CD “April” was released by German Label ECM. “April” won an Edison award. Since then, she has toured with her band and other leading jazz musicians through Europe, North America and Africa. In May 2006, her CD “Compass” was released by ECM, and in 2013 she released “The Gift.” In 2013, her song “Der Gaukler Tag” was nominated for the Prix Marulic.
In her work, influences of classical music and traditional European music can be found. Her artistic identity is characterized by minimal instruments and chamber jazz.
Abbuehl is a professor of jazz voice and ensemble at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts as well as at the Haute Ecole de Musique. She has taught master classes throughout Europe.
