A VIRGIN Mary statue in Fresno, California, the U.S., has reportedly been “crying” for more than a year.
Maria Cardenas told KFSN it began 1.5 years ago at the time of her cousin Jessie Lopez’s murder.
Cardenas told the TV station the statue — which was given a decade ago to her as a Mother’s Day present — goes without crying for periods of time.
She keeps the statue’s tears in a glass, KFSN reported.
Sometimes she doesn’t cry for weeks or months, Cardenas said, but when she starts, she will cry again.
Cardenas’s family considers the crying statue a “miracle,” according to the ABC affiliate.
The TV station also said it witnessed a tear, reporting that “It was oily and smelled like roses.”
Richard Quintana lives nearby and came to look at the statue, telling KFSN, “That’s amazing.
“It takes the words out of my mouth — like wow.
“I’m so amazed.”
The statue’s caretaker, who didn’t want to be identified, said people have tried to figure it out but have only come up with one explanation.
“We’ve had priests come from all over to look at her, and all they say is that it’s a miracle.”
It’s not the first time oil has been linked to the Virgin Mary.
In 2014, a Virgin Mary statue in Tarshiha, Israel, was apparently crying oil tears, DailyMail.com reported at the time.
A different statue of the religious figure belonging to a Griffith, Indiana, Catholic church apparently had “a tear-stained cheek” in 2014, DailyMail.com reported.(SD-Agencies)
