Free a cappella concert
     2016-May-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Boom, a local a cappella band, with all six members from Shenzhen University, will perform a free concert for local audience Saturday afternoon. Entry is free. No need to sign up to enjoy Saturday’s concert.

Formed in 2013, the members include Yan Yiyun, a graduate in vocal and composing majors, Boss, a mezzo soprano who majors in pop singing, Dada who specializes in beatboxing, baritone Zhang Xinlong who majors in singing and composing, baritone Kaizi and bass singer Liu Yiwen.

Their repertoire covers a rich spectrum ranging from rock, R&B, electronic music, and folk songs, although they focus on pop music. Some of the songs are original.

Saturday’s program will include “Bad Romance,” “In the Still of the Night,” “Mary Did You Know,” “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and “We Are Young.”

The band sang at a Maltose Band concert at A8 Live in Nanshan District last year and performed at the Shenzhen Bay Fringe Festival the previous year. They also won an excellence award at the a cappella competition organized by the Shenzhen Concert Hall last year.

Singing out of passion and performing public benefit concerts, the band hopes to get more people to learn about and love a cappella.

    Time: 3 p.m., May 14

Venue: Shenzhen Concert Hall, intersection of Hongli Road and Yitian Road, Futian District (福田区红荔路和益田路交汇处深圳音乐厅)

Metro: Longhua or Longgang Line, Children’s Palace Station (少年宫站), Exit D
