    Meridian

    U.S. rock band Meridian will perform May 17 at Brown Sugar Jar. They play a lively combination of rock and folk music. The band consists of two brothers, Max and Jake Stern, whose energetic performances please hard rock fans. Meridian has toured throughout America and Australia, and is touring in China for the first time.

    Time: 9 p.m., May 17

    Tickets: 40-60 yuan

    Fashion exhibition

    “The Future of Fashion Is Now” exhibition aims to introduce trends in the forefront of fashion design through works of both accomplished designers and emerging young designers. It showcases works by 35 designers from 13 countries. Using costumes, pictures, videos and installation art, the exhibition explores the latest development in contemporary fashion design in four aspects: materials, the human figure, new values in the fashion system, and the interaction between fashion and society.

    Dates: Until July 31

    Venue: OCT Art and Design Gallery, Overseas Chinese Town, 9009 Shennan Boulevard, Nanshan District (深南大道9009号华侨城华·美术馆)

    Hou Dengke’s photos

    An exhibition featuring photographs by late Chinese photographer Hou Dengke (1950-2003) is being held in town. Born in a village in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, Hou was a worker and later an official for a railway company. He held his first photo exhibition in 1982. Villages and migrant workers are the themes of his black-and-white photography, recording social changes in modern China. The 300 exhibited photos in Shenzhen were selected from his works between 1978 and 2002.
