Hubei parents look for son in Shenzhen
     2016-May-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MOTHER from Yichang city in Hubei Province is looking for a son who has been out of touch for six years but has been frequently spotted in Shenzhen according to the police, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

A WeChat article posted by the Yichang Public Security Bureau was widely spread among Chinese netizens recently. The bureau called for help to assist the mother, known as Fu Liangju, to find her son in Shenzhen.

Fu was informed by the police that her son, Tan Sikun, was seen a few times near Zhenghua Road in Futian District. Tan worked for years in a well-known technology company in Longhua New Area after graduating from a university in Hubei Province in 2006.

According to information provided by Fu, the police found that Tan is still in Shenzhen. Clues and hotel registration records show that the young man frequently goes to Internet cafés and hotels in Futian District.

Du Lidong, the deputy section chief of the publicity section of the Yichang Public Security Bureau, said that a family photo suggested that Tan saw his family for the last time in February 2010. Tan’s family have not been able to reach him since then.

An investigation showed that Tan went back to his university in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, to issue a second generation ID card in April 2011. Tan used the ID card to check in at several hotels on Zhenhua Road in Futian District. Tan’s latest record of checking in was also at a hotel in Futian District during the Spring Festival in 2016.

According to the family, Tan was also a frequent visitor at Internet cafés. “We are positive that Fu’s son is still in Shenzhen, but what we are not sure about is why the man does not contact his family,” said Du.

The publicity officer also said that they had tracked a possible location where Tan might have worked.

The Yichang police hoped to trace Tan with the help of Shenzhen police and residents.

Tan is not Fu’s only child. Fu has another son who is deaf and older than Tan.

Though the police confirmed that Tan is still alive, Fu said she doesn’t believe that her younger son is still in Shenzhen. The woman feels guilty about her son running away from home since she and the father had been strict with their younger son.

The parents had high expectations for Tan since his older brother was handicapped. When Tan said he wanted to quit his job at the technology company and start his own business in his hometown, the parents strongly opposed his idea. Tan left home to continue his work in Shenzhen and did not contact his family after that.
